Situated half an hour from Club Aladdin, Lake Songhua is a famous AAAA-rated scenic spot with a distinct identity across all four seasons. The lake ripples with blue waves, surrounded by dozens of peaks that reach up the sky. The peaceful water, countless small stones sticking out of the water, while immense pine forest stretched on the hillside make a fascinating landscape. The lake also breeds a delicious bream flower fish that only licensed restaurants can sell.

Songhua River (Songhua Jiang)

A walk along the Songhua River, one of China’s seven major river is a trip in itself. The surface of the river paints a mirror-image of blue skies and white clouds in spring, summer and autumn. At peak winter, it freezes and creates half a meter thick layer of ice, making it a great playground for all kinds of ice sports. The river in winter is as bustling as a summer bathing beach. Once can go swimming, skating, ice sailing, or ride in ice junks or horse-drawn sleighs.

Wusong (Rime) Island

Wusong Island is home to one of the four natural wonders of China. Viewing its gently frosted trees from a distance is like witnessing legendary jade trees and flowers of immortality. Rime frost, a condensation of powdery snow turned to mist, forms on fogs on pined trees at the break of dawn. This happens because a nearby hydroelectric station discharges warm water into the river daily. Easily blown away by wind or vaporised by sunlight, rime frost is a must-see that makes your world a painting that comes to life.

Drawing its water from the hot spring belt of Changbai Mountain, the Shennong Hot Springs is just 45 minutes northwest of Jilin City. Jilin cuisine, also known as Ji cuisine, is a fusion of Shandong, Korean and Manchurian influences, combines with unique local cooking techniques. Steamed bream flower fish from Songhua Lake is one of the must-try dishes. Ginseng chicken in tonic is Jilin’s three treasures. Chinese meat skewers have firmly stayed at the top of the menu. Guo Bao Rou is Jilin’s answer to sweet and sour pork. Then there is fried vermicelli, a humble yet demanded participant in the Ji gourmet scene, and the list goes on.
